Your Gratitude Attitude

Losses are humbling. They show you that there are some things which we, as individuals, have very little power over, and sometimes in a very painful way. In spite of this, they can also bring out gratitude. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one or the loss of a relationship, in something’s new-found absence we are sharply reminded of what we had. In losing one thing, we also become more grateful for the other things we still have.

Developing an attitude of gratitude improves your quality of life because it helps you appreciate the positive things and people in your life. Gratitude also helps you see the opportunities in the challenges you face.

While at times you may face complex challenges in your stepfamily, be grateful for having your spouse and family. Expressing your appreciation to them for being in your life will bring you closer together.

Here are some tips for developing and expressing an attitude of gratitude:

  • Make a list of the things you are grateful for such as your good health, ability to take a breath freely, being able to walk on your own two feet, the food you have, and your home.
  • List the people you are grateful to and write down what did each one bring into your life.
  • Tell your spouse, your children and other people how grateful you are for what they do for you and for being in your life and giving you the opportunity to be there for them as well.
  • Review your lists daily and make the changes necessary. It will help you maintain the appreciation and gratitude of all the blessings you were given.
  • Thank God every day for your life and all the miracles in it.

Track changes occurring after you start practicing being grateful for who and what is in your life. You may notice that more positive things will happen more frequently. A positive and humble attitude attracts positive and loving people.

Of all the attitudes we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important, and by far the most life changing.
